Episode 136

Kindness vs. Comfort: Why We Say Yes When We Mean No

This wasn’t really about an airplane seat. It was about how easily we give up our comfort to avoid social discomfort. How quickly politeness turns into pressure. And how often we absorb the consequences of someone else’s lack of planning because we don’t want to look like the bad guy.

What stuck with me wasn’t the smell of the bathroom, the broken recliner, or even the frustration—it was the realization that I said yes when I meant no. And that quiet resentment afterward? That’s your internal boundary alarm going off.

So if you take anything from this, let it be this:

Other people’s situations don’t automatically become your responsibility. Empathy doesn’t require self-sacrifice. And “no” doesn’t need a justification to be valid.

Being kind should never mean being uncomfortable on someone else’s behalf.

Sometimes the real work isn’t fixing the moment—it’s understanding why it stayed with us, forgiving ourselves for how we handled it, and deciding how we’ll protect our peace next time.

And hey—if this episode made you rethink a moment where you said yes out of pressure instead of alignment, you’re not alone. We’ve all been there. The growth is noticing it… and choosing differently next time.

Hello and welcome!
I’m Meredith - author, podcast host, and someone who’s spent years navigating the highs and lows of personal growth, self-esteem, and setting boundaries. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that resilience isn’t just a buzzword - it’s a necessity.
Whether dealing with wild workplace dynamics (looking at you, retail world!) or managing the overwhelming mental load of just being human, I’ve spent a lot of time figuring out how to stay grounded, set boundaries, and keep my sanity intact. It’s not about getting it perfect; it’s about making progress.
And that’s exactly why Anxiety Makes Me Poop exists - to have real, honest conversations about the stuff we all deal with, but don’t always talk about. From overthinking everything to finding ways to laugh through the chaos, we’re here to remind you that you’re not alone.
So, thank you for listening, for laughing with us a little, and for being part of this community. We appreciate you more than you know! 💛🎙️✨
